Tickets and On-going Extra Credit Information

Extra Credit Opportunities for Language Arts

Earn as many tickets as you can!

Tickets are like money in this class…cash them in for credit!

Tickets are redeemable for credit on all assignments!

(Except the Midterm and the Final Exam)

1 ticket = 1 pt. on a quiz

3 tickets = 1 100% on a homework assignment

(This is the same thing as a homework pass)

3 tickets = 1% on a test

How do I earn tickets?

  1. You can earn tickets by studying for tests and weekly quizzes.  For every 100% you get on a test or quiz, you get one ticket!
  2. Whenever we are reading a novel in class, you have the option to buy your own copy.  If you  read along and write two comments to summarize events and your own thoughts in the margin of each page, you can turn the book in to me for 10 tickets when you are finished!!!
  3.  You can read a book and write a 5-paragraph essay when you’re through, which is worth 5 tickets.

Steps for the book report/essay extra credit indicated in #3:

  1. Select a book
  2. Bring the book to me so that I can read the synopsis and generate an essay prompt for you
  3. Read the book
  4. Write a 5-paragraph essay based on the prompt that I gave you

(You can do this as many times as you wish thoughout the year!)

    4.  Complete the weekly extra credit assignment posted on the class website!  (The assignment will be posted every Monday and it will be due every Friday.)

How do I redeem my tickets?

In order to redeem tickets, please ask me for a grade printout.  By viewing your grade printout, you will be able to see which assignments you would like to use the tickets on.  Write directly on the grade printout and tell me the number of tickets you would like to apply for each assignment.  Staple all of your tickets to the grade printout, and turn it in to your class period’s box.

For example, if I got a 79% on a test, and I really wanted an 80%, I would attach three tickets to my grade printout.  I would also write down “three tickets” next to the test name in which I received the 79%.  Then, I would drop the grade printout in the correct box at the front of the room.
