Homework:

Write a letter to your teachers.  This letter must be written in the perspective of your parent, and it must explain what you are like at home.  The letter should be about three paragraphs. For example, a student in my Language Arts class might write:

Dear Mrs. Stetson,

My son, Jim Wallace, always helps me out around the house.  He picks the weeds every weekend, and he watches his little sister when he gets home from school. 

Sincerely,

Mrs. Wallace

Advanced:  Do the assignment above and read up through chapter 15 in Chinese Cinderella.

1.  Warm Up – Journal:  Think of someone you would consider to be a hero.  Explain at least one event that would make him or her a hero, and describe heroic qualities that this person has.  (1 paragraph)  Then, underline all of the proper nouns and circle all of the common nouns.

2.  Periods 1, 2, and 3:  Copy down Spelling Lesson 2 definitions

3.  Read “Treasure of Lemon Brown” p. 94 for on-level classes.  Read Chinese Cinderella in advanced class.

4.  Work on Story Map while reading

5.  Periods 7 and 8: Finish character head presentations

Homework:

Periods 1, and 2:  Work on Spelling Lesson 2 Exercises.  (I’m giving you a break because we didn’t have enough time yesterday to copy down the definitions for each homonym.)

Period 1 (Advanced):  Read up THROUGH chapter 5 in Chinese Cinderella and work on story map as you read.

Period 7:  Finish reading “Treasure of Lemon Brown” (p. 100 – 101)

2.  Extra Credit (if we have time.)  If we don’t, students will perform on Monday.
Homework:  Study Spelling Lesson 1 for the QUIZ on MONDAY!  (There will be four questions that relate to your Subject and Verb worksheet, so be familiar with subjects and verbs as well.)

Period 2:  Start the story map and plot arch worksheets for the “Treasure of Lemon Brown.”  (You don’t need to finish it yet since we didn’t finish the story.)

Advanced Class:  You may want to get your own copy of Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah, if you plan to do the extra credit assignment.  The extra credit assignment will require you to write two comments per page in the margin of your own copy.

1.  Warm Up:  Most people are born with five senses – sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell.  If you had to give up one sense for the rest of your life, which would you pick and why?  Explain in 1 paragraph.  Then, underline the subjects and circle the verbs.

3.  Read story – Advanced: Brothers Grimm “Cinderella” / On-level:  “Treasure of Lemon Brown” (in Lit. book)

4.  Work on Story Map and Plot Arch

Homework:

– Start/finish story map and plot arch (Adv. is the only class that should finish.)

– Work on extra credit

– Study spelling words – Quiz will be on Monday due to Checkpoints testing tomorrow!!!

1.  Warm Up – Journal

Think of the most interesting place you’ve ever been, or just your favorite place to go.  Write a paragraph to describe it, but don’t tell where it is until the very end of the paragraph.  What can you see, smell, taste, touch, and hear?  Try to paint a picture for the reader so that he/she can guess where you are.

Underline the subjects and circle the verbs in each sentence.

2.  Narrative Elements Notes

3.  Class Work: Group work pertaining to story development

4.  Present more Character Heads if we have time

Homework: 

Journal Prompt:  What makes a story good?  Think about your favorite novel, short story, or even a movie, and write to explain what you liked about it.  (1 paragraph)

Study your spelling words from the Lesson 1 worksheet.
